The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale opened its doors in September 1968,
offering diploma programs in Commercial Art, Interior Design, and
Fashion Illustration. The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale received
state approval for Veterans’ training in September 1970 and was
accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Trade and Technical Schools
of the Career College Association in April 1971.
In November 1973, Education Management Corporation acquired The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale from its founder, Mark K. Wheeler.
